Shamin so badly wanted to be a professional footballer.

But he sucked at it. Instead, he found that he had a talent for telling stories through words and pictures. So in 2003, he gave up a dead-end IT technician job and took up journalism. After that, he meandered through various sectors - digital agencies, corporate, NGOs. He even got a stint as head of content at Avatar Agency for three years.

Currently a PEN South Africa professional member, Shamin has written in numerous formats: long-form features for Al Jazeera Magazine, adaptations of classic tales for graphic novels and plays for the Market Theatre in Johannesburg.

His latest short story, The Year of Failure, was published by Goethe-Institut in the first ever pan-African anthology of young adult fiction – Water Birds on the Lakeshore – which was launched at the Ake Book Festival in Nigeria.

In 2019, his play The Soccerites was selected and performed in Johannesburg for the Writers Lab Reading Festival . He is currently working on the Covid Toonz animated series script amongst other projects.
